Preparing for a Manifestation Meeting
Information for non-attorney advocates assisting children with manifestation determination reviews.
Community advocates (case managers, foster parents, CASAs, and other non-attorney advocates) use this guide to prepare for a Manifestation Determination Review (“MDR”), a process required by federal law before a school can remove a child with a disability from school for an extended period of time. The guide briefly outlines the legal basis for MDRs, and provides tips for preparing for and attending MDRs on behalf of a child with a disability.
