Toolkit: School Tribunals
Resources to Advocate for Children Facing a School Disciplinary Hearing
Before a school suspends or expels a child for over 10 days, the school must hold a School Disciplinary Hearing (sometimes called a Tribunal). These tools are designed to help parents and guardians, advocates, caseworkers, and even attorneys prepare to advocate for a child in a school tribunal hearing.
Georgia Appleseed’s FAIR (Fairness, Advocacy & Individualized Representation) project provides guidance, resources, and can help connect students with advocates and attorneys. We also offer a free online training course to help parents and caregivers of children facing school tribunals and hearings: Advocating for Children in School.
