Luci Ruiz

Policy Counsel

Luci applies her background in courtroom advocacy at the individual level to systemic reform that impacts the larger community.

Luci came to Georgia Appleseed with a demonstrated commitment to justice and opportunity for marginalized populations with nearly seven years of experience as an assistant public defender (most recently in the Fulton County Juvenile Court) and an additional two years working in AmeriCorps.

After graduating from Georgia Southern University, Luci began working with low-income families in metro Atlanta through AmeriCorps. Tasked with developing the Veteran Leader Corps program, Luci collaborated with other community partners to bring service projects to low-income military families to assist them in their transition back to civilian life. This opportunity led Luci to earn her Juris Doctor from Mercer University and pursue a career in the law as a public defender.

In Fulton County, Luci served as the court-appointed attorney for the juvenile mental health court, where she advocated for clients in both the school and with mental health treatment.
