Leading Change: Special Call for Legal Advocates

Role Summary:

Georgia Appleseed Center for Law & Justice is seeking a Legal & Policy Director (LPD) to lead our efforts in advancing justice for Georgia’s children through law and policy reform. This role involves spearheading our program initiatives, particularly in dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline and ensuring safe, healthy housing for children and families. The LPD will collaborate closely with our Executive Director, program staff, and pro bono volunteers, playing a crucial role in setting strategic directions and achieving impactful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Develop and implement strategic vision and goals for Georgia Appleseed programs in coordination with the Executive Director.
  • Manage program operations, ensuring alignment with organizational mission, strategic goals, and grant deliverables.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff attorneys, program managers, interns, and volunteers.
  • Forge and maintain relationships with state agencies, community leaders, and pro bono partners to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Lead community engagement efforts to raise awareness and support for Georgia Appleseed’s initiatives.
  • Serve as the organization’s lead attorney, providing legal guidance and coordinating pro bono legal support.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor and a current license to practice law in Georgia.
  • A minimum of 7 years of legal experience, at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and passion for the mission of Georgia Appleseed.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and familiarity with cloud-based applications and project management tools.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Annual salary of $95,000 to $130,000, based on experience.

Location:

This full-time position is based in Atlanta, GA, with a combination of remote and in-office work. The role also requires travel throughout Georgia as needed.
