Caren Cloud: A New Chapter in Advocacy for Georgia’s Youth

Marking an exciting career transition, Caren Cloud has been appointed as a Fulton County Juvenile Court Judge. Her move from Georgia Appleseed, where she has been a driving force behind substantial legal and policy advancements, to the bench of the Juvenile Court is a testament to her dedication and impact in the field of juvenile justice and child welfare.

A Legacy of Impact at Georgia Appleseed

Since 2021, Cloud has led as the Legal and Policy Director at Georgia Appleseed, overseeing the organization’s programming across school justice and housing justice initiatives. Her leadership contributed significantly to enhancing school-based behavioral health resources, the establishment of robust training programs for child advocates, and legislative reforms focused on maintaining children’s attendance at school and improving living conditions for underserved populations.

A Career Rooted in Advocacy and Education

 Cloud’s professional journey is deeply rooted in advocacy and education, shaped by her experiences as a third-generation Atlantan and alumna of the Atlanta Public Schools. Her career spanning over two decades has been dedicated to juvenile justice and child welfare, including significant roles within the Fulton County Juvenile Court as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer and Court Program Administrator. Her expertise also extends to academia, having served as an adjunct professor of Juvenile Law at Georgia State University’s College of Law.
