Mary Kathryn is committed to advancing policies and systems that help children and families thrive.
Mary Kathryn Velazquez is a Policy Staff Attorney at Georgia Appleseed. She leads the organization’s school-based behavioral health work and supports education and behavioral health policy initiatives across Georgia.
She leads the Georgia Education Climate Coalition, a statewide network working to advance positive school climate. Through this work, she brings together educators, advocates, researchers, policymakers, and community partners to share ideas and support solutions that help students thrive.
Before joining Georgia Appleseed, Mary Kathryn worked in disability discrimination law and contributed to child welfare policy initiatives through the Barton Child Law & Policy Clinic at Emory University School of Law.
Mary Kathryn holds a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama.
