Deputy General Counsel (East), The Southern Company
Matthew D. Bozzelli serves as Deputy General Counsel (East) for Southern Company and is primarily responsible for several legal practice areas including corporate, energy regulation, legal operations and technology. In this role, he oversees day-to-day legal support of SCS administrative and operational clients and works closely with general counsels across the Southern system to help support their operating companies. Matt joined Southern Company Services in September 2014 as Associate General Counsel and served as Practice Group Leader of the Business Development, M&A, Legal Operations, Innovation and Integration legal team, charged with advising, supporting and executing on the company’s strategic initiatives and transactions.
In addition to his work on Georgia Appleseed's Board of Directors, Matt is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Access to Capital for Entrepreneurs, a Georgia nonprofit community development loan fund focused on small business and entrepreneurial growth through financing and education for women, people of color, and low- to moderate-income business owners. In 2017, Matt was named a 40 Under 40 Honoree by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Matt is a native of Rochester, New York and received his B.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. from Notre Dame Law School. Matt and his wife Heidi live in East Cobb with their two daughters Madeline and Gabriella.
